The braces scars are caused by acids attacking the tooth around the bracket but since the bracket covers the middle of the tooth it isn't affected. If you have braces now, keep your teeth squeaky clean (remove all of the plaque at the gumline!!!) and rinse daily with ACT fluoride (you can get it at the drug store in the toothpast isle).
