I have had an open heart surgery scar since I was 3 (I am now 22). Vitamin E helps, but it won't make it go away completely especially if the scar is raised.How can I get rid of scars, that I've had forever?
It depends on the scar. It is good to get lotions and cremes with vitamin C in them and there are special cremes for scars. I have a bad scar on my leg and I put lotion on it every day. It doesn't stick out anymore. You should try that neosporin scar creme. It mighty work.

You can't totally get rid of them. I have a 4 1/2 inch scar on my face. Plastic surgery has helped. It is called scar revision. They make the scar look different so it blends in with body lines. The scar is thinner now. Sun exposure makes scars widen and I didin't know that when I was first cut. My surgery was 2 years ago and I never leave the house without a 30 sunscreen at least on my face.


Mederma is another option that people have had alot of success with. There are a few other brands that are similar to it.


I would use the vitamin E also as a few people recommended.


By the way, my insurance paid for my scar revision.
Get away from dairy foods like milk ,cheece,butter and white bread

if you really want them gone then laser resurfacing is your best option-sort of like how they remove tattoos-it's expensive and it does sting-but if you just want them to be less noticeable you can get creams specially formulated for older scars and how to fade them-go on drugstore.com and type in scar in the search bar and you'll get some great products and reviews
Go to the dollar store and get those cheap Vitamin E capsules. everyday take a few then open up a a few and rub the oil straight on your skin. I have found that this works better then the very expesive palmers scar serum that is made out ot vitamin E.
mederma does really work.. even thought its pretty pricey for a lil tube.. use a little and you'll get alot out of it. i had a really bad scar on the side of my nose from falling on my face.. the scar was raised and very dark.. after using mederma.. it's fading and its smoothed out with my skin now.. but it hasnt disappeared yet.
my moms a skin specialist the only way u can get red of a scar is by Glycolic Acid about 30 to 60% on the scar leave it on for 3 mins and wash it off the skin will slowly starts to shead slowly just like super dry skin but sheading takes about a week thats the only way you can git rid of scars there is from Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid ,TAC Acid( VERY STRONG only used for wrinkles and acne scars)
