There is no possible way that an artifical heart could not be obvious. First, there is no other way to implant the heart without cutting the chest open and second, you would be taking massive amounts of immunosuppressants for the rest of your life to prevent rejection. I assume you are speaking rhetorically so here goes. A stethoscope is not technically an ';external power source'; but it would certainly detect this artificial heart. Sometimes, they do have an audible click as they ';beat';. You can actually hear it with your own ear just standing a foot or so from the patient. So yes to a trained ear it would be detectable, but not to the average person.
