Why do heroin addicts have scars?

My friend is addicted to heroin ( he says he only smokes it, he does not inject heroin ) and he has small scars and wounds all over his body, especially on his face. These wounds look like scars after a mosquito bite. Is there any good site that explains in detail what this drug does to the health of a person?

PS. I'm trying to learn more in order to help him.Why do heroin addicts have scars?
I myself use to be a heroin addict it sounds like he is a skin picker when i would be really high off of heroin i would pick my skin until it formed a scab then leading to a scar thankfully i didn't pick my face i am happy to hear that he has a friend like you because he needs support but don't push he will go to rehab when the time is right. .Why do heroin addicts have scars?
My guess, it's a combination of things, nutrition, allergic reaction, scratching, etc...

Physiologically %26amp; psychologically drugs can create some extreme behaviors, the ';outer scares'; are a result (symptom).

Although not the same drug, Meth users have a tendency to scar themselves by scratching %26amp; picking their skin excessively without even realizing it!
When you do heroin you get fidgety and tend to scratch at your body... And if you are a regular user, you are not healthy, which means your skin/hair/etc is not at a good state which can lead to acne.
